Firefly and Serenity

Thursday, December 15th, 2005

The only TV show, where the cast talks like my friends. (other than OC).

Like bladerunner, Chinese is actually part of the vocabulary.

The cast will break out in Mandarine swear words like TMD and exclaimations like " He lost his head", etc.

Firefly is a cowboy space show, that looks alot like Anime: Cowboy bebop and Outlaw Star:

Serenity is the movie based off the TV show Firefly. Good stuff I must say.If there was a sci-fi adventure show to bring to China, this should be it. IPTV it.

Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened
veteran on the losing side of a galactic civil war, now
ekes out a living pulling off small crimes and transport-for-hire
aboard his ship, Serenity. He leads a small, eclectic
crew who are the closest thing he has left to family -
squabbling, insubordinate and undyingly loyal. When Mal
takes on two new passengers - a young doctor and his unstable,
telepathic sister - he gets much more than he bargained
for. The pair are fugitives from the coalition dominating
the universe, who will stop at nothing to reclaim the
girl. The crew that was once used to skimming the outskirts
of the galaxy unnoticed find themselves caught between
the unstoppable military force of the Universal Alliance
and the horrific, cannibalistic fury of the Reavers, savages
who roam the very edge of space. Hunted by vastly different
enemies, they begin to discover that the greatest danger
to them may be on board Serenity herself. This is the
feature film version of the late, lamented sci-fi cult
                        TV series "Firefly."

T

Macau Sands

Monday, December 12th, 2005

Some point the night before taking off for Macau, I ended up seeing a big % of friends in Shanghai.

Enoch’s GF from BJ came down for the MTV talent competition, and the support rally group brought together some.

The after party @ Guandi, and Cartier after party group @ 97, and the game Dev crew all converged Friday night.

Had one of the most fun nights but lost my voice.

Then flew to Macau with M and Mark on Sat at 3:40. Almost didn’t make my flight, but Mark streamlined the entire process. The pudong airport should get him to consult.

Mark had this Moto fun that could Google and download email. (Efficiently). It cost him 200 rmb/ a week for everything, for 500 minutes and 500 kbs of download? Why do I have the 560 Rmb package with the crappy fun. I want that one. Heard it cost 2600 rmb. Gonna wait till 2006, and get it.

Macau was a cool experience. The temperature, the gambling at Sands, Baccarat, and C Stud Poker with 900 HKD swings. Too much for my budget, but ended being up 1500 HKD at one point, and then back down to bare bones. Good thing I budgeted right.

Total trip was 27 hrs. Had loads of fun. Think I will do this once every 4 month. (put away 1500/ month as the fun budget)

Been out of APNC since March now, and last week, took the APNC email acct off my outlook.  The separation is almost complete and a chapter of my pre 30th is over.

All my start-ups should show result in early 2006. If they become hobbies, or are actually money makers. This is the year to prove the concept and solidify the niche and rev model.

It’s an exciting year, and all that I have learned in the past from Forum experience sharing, my other biz, and human nature, will apply.

P-Scan and B-Scan will be a good one. Used to spot trouble individuals who may be too aggressive or disruptive to the team effort. Glory hounds, egomaniacs, liars, and two faced individuals filtered prior to interaction. If someone get through my fire wall, then a quick purging and virus check should clear the ailment up.

Don’t have the energy and health to deal with it. Already not enough time, to make loot, and opportunities like Sh, only come around once in centuries.

The goal to move back to the US in 2.5 years is still active. But, the process to determine , how to move back, and how to generate more active income in the US, and more secondary cash flow may take longer than I am planning for now.

Good challenges. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

On a cool note, my EOs group in Shanghai is now 25 ppl. Something, that the founding chapter members started 4 years ago after EAC started is now self-sustaining.

A testament to perseverance, and good people.

Shanghai is freezing over, and winter is fully felt.  I am thinking of bedding down for hibernation.

Especially since the last big night out resulting in me sumo wrestling with the a bunch of friends.

Sigh, it’s really time to give the liver a rest, and find a warm body to curl up with.

2005, the last year with APNC!
Diesel is a HIT!

New concepts!
Boot strapping, organic growth, keep the original investment low, so there is a quicker return on investment. But the time to hire new staff will be unavoidable.

Looking for detailed web process planner to help manage all 3 websites, and manage online content and leads.

Solar Power Goodness

Thursday, December 1st, 2005

Been doing research on Zero Energy, Solar power, natural heat pumps, and sustainable systems.

The function/ economy matrix is one that would deterine the adoptablility and feasibility of these systems integrated into a housing system.

ModuFab is a new project in  efficient construction based on the ideaology of Dwell in prefab, sustainable moderistic designed housing.  A massive movement right now.

That aside, my other pet project for  passport visa extension service is starting to test next week. Hopefully, it will be tweaked fast and promoted enough.

My last project is to get industrial professional associations online for learning, interaction, jobs, and work order platform. The criterias for it has been formed, and programmers briefed, but, we are just starting to do the design and process. I foresee a huge amount of tweaking to be done for that. In fact so much so, that I may recruit and educate staff to take over the building supervision of this site so I can concentrate on the BD aspect of the business network.

After six month, I am fully out of APNCGROUP, but as always will be redirecting any BD to the guys in the office. Diesel was pretty damn good.

For now, these concept projects keep me busy,  glued to my home office, and sticking to my post age 31 resolution of no commute, no suits, online, efficient, and investment & startup oriented business.

For some reason, TV is no longer an escape because it’s too close in my home, but I have seen some interesting movies. Revolver, and Happy Ending are thought provoking ones. Comments on these anyone?

Not to be a green nut, with a construction hat on. But……… check this out.

Shanghai   first to go with sustainable city?

Some of the world’s most polluted cities are
in China, so it’s no surprise that clean energy sources are one of the country’s
research-and-development priorities.

The Solar Energy Institute at Shanghai
Jiaotong University, for instance, has built a one-story, 245-square-meter
prototype house that relies on multiple forms of renewable energy, supplemented
with energy from conventional sources. The house’s power system includes an
array of photovoltaic cells that generates 1,700 watts of electricity under peak
sunlight conditions, and three sets of 300-watt wind turbines. The system can
generate about 3,000 kilowatt-hours of electrical power each year, mainly for
lighting, household electrical appliances, and water pumps.

Outside the house stands a street lamp
with its own independent solar-power system. Twenty square meters of
solar-energy panels and 2,000-watt terrestrial heat pumps provide heat for both
the rooms of the house and the water supply. Twenty people a day can bathe in
summer, or 10 in winter, and still leave enough hot water for routine use. The
same heat pumps work in reverse during the summer to cool about one-quarter of
the house, an area of 60 square meters. Based on the average amount of annual
sunlight in Shanghai, the system could provide 10,700 kilowatt-hours of heat per
year. The goal is for the house to draw 70 percent of its needed energy from the
sun.

A solar-energy collecting tube invented
by a professor at Tsinghua University could make solar power more practical. The
glass vacuum heat collector has an aluminum nitride coating that absorbs solar
energy. Each of the coating’s multiple layers absorbs a different wavelength of
light, turning it into heat. The collector can capture 50 to 60 percent of
incoming solar energy, which can then be used to heat water or air. Tsinghua has
applied for more than 30 patents on the device, which is already offered
commercially in China, Switzerland, Japan, and Germany.
