No copyright protection whats so ever.
Sunday, July 31st, 2005So I was walking home from visiting my new gym this afternoon, and I stopped by to get some pirated DVDs, off the street. Chocolate Factory is already out, and so I picked up a copy, and kept on moving donw the sidewalk.
For a long time now, buying DVDs have been as normal to me as the Shanghai Hot and Clamy Days, the gray sky, the non receiving pirate sat tv that only works when you want to go out, the dirty barber shops, and the talk of crystal meth called "black ice" by the party favor party gals.
But guess, what ,…. I guess nothing was surprise me now, because I just found Dan Brown’s De Vince Code paper back of hard back in full English being sold for 15 rmb. They also had all the Harry Potters, Lord of the Ring, Pride and Prejudice, and Dan Brown’s other books.
What would a Shanghainess Grandma do with a copy of De Vince Code? The communist party controls religion in China, and there is no such thing as independent Bible Study, and so no one really knows much about God, and Christianity except what they just watched in Kingdom of Heaven and Constantine.
Anyways, so I bought some books.
I guess that is exactly why people focus on the US , Japan, Europe markets before any third worlds, and regardless of how high they can put up a building on the bund, until, you can offer respect and intelectual protection to products and technology, a third world country was stay a third world country.
I will be on vacation until Sept 7th or so, just rounding off 6 month of not being a workaholic. My decisions for the next business, preparation work, investments, and soon to transact investments have all been done on my spare time. Getting to be a bit ridicules, waking up with nothing to do, and trying to find something to do. Yes, it does need to new thoughts and broadens the mind, but my personality is such, that I need the hussle and bussle. I started using a coffee maker, brought in a white board and started writting long business assessment emails.
Bought and watched every single TV series I could get my hands on.
Hooking up business contacts left and right.
Been asked to rep movie directors, go to live shoots, raise funds for health supplements, look at property investments, …….. not to mention my own prefab and HR projects.
The time being, I am trying to figure out , if to continue on with my Mongolian Trip bookings, or go to Monteray Bay for my friends wedding instead. I will be taking a trip to Qingdao mid Aug, and Elaine will be back for 5-7 days, but those are all easy trips to take. They keep on telling me that Mongolia is a 5-8 day trip, with horseback riding in the desert or fishing the big sky (take your pick).
Main concern is time, and cost. Coming to the end of my 6 month vacation, I will need to budget my trips and plan wisely. Lots of nonsense money have left my pockets, and I have enjoyed the spoils, but there is always the lingering, nagging thoughts that it could have been spent better.
Oh well, still a boy when it comes to shit like this.
